unique wedding experience

Green hills,  water fronts ,  are all so  common in being  the traditional and formal receptions that we go to. I have noticed that many are weary of switching up the format .
One of my recent Indian/ Punjabi full day weddings took the risk of being unique . I was so impressed with the results that I wanted to share the outcome .

The venue:
An intimate classy Ballroom that seated 150, which overlooked an outdoor patio on a hill side upstate NY.
The venue was filled the elegance of river-front charm and simplicity.

The day started off with a water front wedding ceremony . From which guests moved on to an outdoor  patio   for the cocktail hour  and a full buffet.  of Indian food.  After  cocktail hour  the guests  proceeded towards the  ball room for dinner and  dancing

 What  made this  wedding unique..

The DJ was  not situated in the ball room . Actually the dj was outside on the patio and could only be  heard in the ball room   softly through a half open door.  Dinner was an American dinner with  the option of Indian  sauce . So, rather than having a combined buffet , the food was separated into  two segments : Full Indian buffet, and full Italian/ Irish buffet  later on.

after the dinner   doors to the Patio where opened up and  guests  made their way to the outdoor dance floor.Dj Azad played   Bollywood  Bhangra , Punjabi and American  Top 40 dance hits  while    motivated  guests  to  try  out the different  dance styles.

The  celebration  lasted into the darkness and was a big hit.

What we learned….

That its okay to be  non traditional . By not combining    buffets  guests were still happy , and to have the DJ in a separate location  from the dinning room/ ball room  was  just as inviting as  having the dj in the ball room.
