I owned the Ev elx112p which I am very happy with .
But, this is why I did not buy the zlx series when my company went to upgrade/ renew our sound.
There was a time that I tried out the mackie thump series . And I actually used them for a few small parties . the problem with those was that I Noticed the peak light hitting and coming on even during the opening/ beginning background music time . during the dance time the peak limit light was on solid for many songs . I am in the habit of playing everything at "0 db" and the box shouldn't really peak at that level . I researched online and found that the thump series has a very low threshold . and was nothing like the srm series. I sold the thumps immediately at a loss .
Now left with the elx series I needed to add secondary set of speakers
the zlx was just newly in the market around this same time this happened . so I called a few technicians and sound guys that I trust . I asked if adding the zlx115p would be an upgrade , noting that its the same 1000 watts peak and a bigger woofer than the elx112p.
these are the final recommendations from my set of techs: looking at the 112p on both series the zlx was a step down from the elx . they told me zlx was an inferior box with cheaper circuitry . hence, I would not be able to push the zlx boxes .
This reminded me of the thumps , and the stress of looking at the peak light on while there is a packed dance floor . I did not want that stress or risk on my dj business .
I have been told I made the right choice , I ended up buying a completely different set of
speakers and am very pleased with them.
I would say that the thumps and the ev zlx are good for bedroom mixing and practicing , but not for professional use .
